❓ What is IVS?

Japan's Largest Startup Conference Started in 2007, "IVS" is the most historic startup conference in Japan. As a place where startup managers and investors meet, various startups have grown as a result of this event, producing a significant number of business leaders and investors.

Our Mission: "Catalyst for the next generation.” There is a phrase that we value the most. That is "Catalyst for the next generation." The term "next generation" does not refer to age, but rather the driving forces that create a new era. We're constantly thinking about what is needed to build a new future and planning accordingly. Additionally, we're not limiting ourselves to Japan—we've set a vision to become "Asia's No. 1 startup platform." By "platform," we mean not only the events we host, but also the broader movement that includes side events supporting our mission.

Last year, a major shift in IVS Until now, we have been holding an "invitation-only conference" where only invited executives and investors can participate in different cities every year. However, starting in 2023, we made a change in our approach by adopting a ticket sales system that allows anyone interested in startups to participate. We have set up a new area where anyone interested in startups can participate, and we have also considered increasing the population of people involved in startups. This change resulted in over 10,000 attendees. We also put a lot of effort into the "side events" which can be held by any participant. With over 150 side events, including a private event at Nijo Castle, Kyoto was immersed in startup enthusiasm. This shift was a significant challenge for us as well.

👀  What will happen to IVS2024?

First back-to-back Kyoto Event! Crypto Event will also be held at the same time. In 2024, IVS returns to Kyoto for a second consecutive year. Two events will be held concurrently: IVS2024 KYOTO and IVS Crypto 2024 KYOTO. Unlike the previous event, the main venue for this year's event is Kyoto Pulse Plaza, with multiple additional locations.

IVS2024 KYOTO is designed for all individuals ready to face challenges: entrepreneurs, investors, business owners, engineers, researchers, and anyone interested in startups or open innovation. This event is a valuable opportunity for business leaders and investors seeking funding or growth, and for those interested in new business ideas to help build the future.

IVS Crypto 2024 KYOTO, on the other hand, is a specialized conference focused on cryptocurrency and blockchain. Pioneers in this field will explore the evolution of the digital economy and the potential of Web3. Since both events are held at the same venue, attendees can easily participate in both without barriers.

Both events are held in one location, allowing participants to freely engage in either or both events without barriers.

Theme: Cross the Boundaries The theme for 2024 is "Cross the Boundaries." What are the "intangible walls" that currently exist? It challenges boundaries across nationality, religion, gender, age, occupation, technology, corporate affiliation, and ideology. What lies beyond these boundaries? And how can crossing them unlock a new future? Explore these possibilities with us.

Two Pass Types The two primary pass types for IVS2024 are NEXT Pass and BUSINESS Pass. NEXT Pass is the primary pass. It's designed for those interested in startups, aspiring entrepreneurs, career changers, and those in business development aiming to create new value. BUSINESS Pass is for executives, investors, and business leaders. It's intended for those seeking deeper funding and investment negotiations.

🥷🏼 Volunteer staff creates IVS

Staff Culture and Community For over 15 years, IVS has been supported by a large number of volunteer staff. Many of them are young people aspiring to become entrepreneurs and investors, and there are many examples of former staff starting up companies and growing them into major ventures or becoming investors themselves. Additionally, many alumni are present at the venue, closely watching and supporting the new volunteers’ activities. Guests often comment that "the volunteer staff are the most notable aspect of IVS." We have nurtured a high-motivation staff culture aimed at fostering the growth of the startup community.

🕹️  What Do Volunteers Do?

Let's start by saying this: staffs are busy. But why do they choose to become staff on the day of the event? To be honest, volunteering at IVS can be hectic. So why do people choose to be event-day volunteers? As a student, you could simply buy a ticket for 5,000 yen and enjoy IVS as a participant. Volunteering, on the other hand, is demanding and not always easy. Still, the reason for becoming staff is the desire to meet the IVS community that plans and operates IVS.

IVS has been going on since a time when even the word “start-up ecosystem" was hardly known in Japan. Furthermore, IVS has a history of being maintained by volunteer staff who have planned and supported it for generations.

Now, a lot of "planning staff" are preparing for the event and advancing the planning & design for this year's IVS. Many of these staff have previously worked as "event-day volunteers". After their time as volunteers, they often return as participants or speakers, which adds to the growth of the IVS community. For instance, Shimaoka, chairman of the IVS KYOTO Organizing Committee and CEO of Headline Japan, first joined IVS as an event-day volunteer during his college years.

The experiences of being a participants and a staff are completely different. If you just want to enjoy IVS, becoming a participant is the best option. But if you want to help build the structure that creates and supports the next generation, join us and let's work together.
